Bible Verses on Love

God’s Word talks a lot about love. To know real love, you must know God personally. If you need to understand what real love is and grow in love, the following verses will help you to do that.

Deuteronomy 6:5 – “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

Psalm 18:1 – “I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.”

Psalm 97:10 – “You that love the Lord, hate evil…”

Psalm 122:6 – “…they shall prosper that love thee.”

Proverbs 10:12 – “Hatred stirs up strife; but love covers all sins.”

Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times…”

Jeremiah 31:3 – “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.

Matthew 5:44 – “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

Mark 12:30-31 “And thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and  with all your strength: this is the first commandment. The second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

Luke 6:35 – “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

John 15:35 – “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.”

Romans 8:35 – “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. love does not envy, love does not boast, it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”  

Galatians 5:6 – “…but faith which worketh by love.”

Galatians 5:22 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.”

Ephesians 3:19 – “And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge (understanding) that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.”

2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

1 John 3:1 – “Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called he sons of God…”

1 John 4:7-8 – “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loves is born of God and knows God…for God is love.”

1 John 4:18 – “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear..”

1 John 4:19 “We love Him, because He first loved us.”
