Faith and Grace

Did you realize that faith and grace go hand-in-hand? Romans 4:16 says “Therefore, it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.”

Paul speaks of righteousness by faith in this chapter and is showing us that our righteousness, our right-standing before God is through faith by grace. It is not by anything the Law says to do or that it demands we fulfill.

The first word, therefore, shows that this connects to verse 13 which talks about the promise to Abraham of being an heir of the world. When God spoke that word to Abraham, he didn’t even have a son. God’s promise to Abraham was not given through the Law or keeping it. Therefore, Paul says, it was through the righteousness of faith. Abraham exercised faith in God’s word and believed what He said.

Abraham believed God and what God promised him long before the Law came into being. Abraham believed what God told him, and God counted that as righteousness of faith. Faith reached up to God and God answered with Grace.

You can’t operate in faith without operating in God’s grace. God’s grace doesn’t look at your obedience, what you’ve done right or wrong or your lack of it. Through the eyes of God’s Love, Grace extends favor, undeserved, unmerited because God loves.

What God did and established with Abraham, He will do for you. God will extend favor, undeserved and unmerited to you through His Grace because He loves you. All that’s needed is for you to believe what He promised in His Word. As you reach out to Him in faith believing, God will answer you with grace, full of love.

Begin to see the connection of faith and grace in your life. Grow your faith and God’s grace will grow as well, and you’ll see God’s blessings in your life.
