Hiking Through Life with the Psalmist Part 4

The Destination

Finally, the destination is insight. The hard struggle is behind and the last steps take us to the peak. Now comes time to sit, relax, and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. The view is magnificent from the top. Perhaps a fire tower stands at the top like a sentinel over the whole region. We usually open the backpack and have a snack and a drink of water.

There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains… Psalm 72:16

Now the hike doesn’t seem so bad. I usually say, “That was quite a hike.” I quickly forget the struggle up the mountain and now am enjoying the fruits of the challenge. I feel like a winner. I completed the hike and that sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something hard and completing the goal. It’s downhill from here. After a brief time of restoration, we enjoy the walk back down the mountain.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:3

I’m ready for the next hike. The difficult times are behind—at least for now. Life is a series of hikes. Each day there is new scenery, new challenges, new obstacles, and maybe a little of the old times mixed in. Select the trail with me and let’s going hiking.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. Psalm 89:15
