Jesus Is Life

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

Man has been searching for the Fountain of Youth probably since the first man died. The Fountain of Youth was a legendary spring, which would turn old men into youth and extend life forever. The legend became particularly prominent in the 16th century, when it was associated with the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León, who landed in Florida in 1513 looking for the spring. Unfortunately, no one has found it yet. People are still looking, however. There are all kinds of potions, lotions, and crazy concoctions that people think might be the Fountain of Youth.

Jesus said that He is life. He is the fountain of life. “For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” (Psalms 36:9) He gives true life. He gives the life, which lasts forever.

God designed man to live forever. However, sin came in through Adam and Eve, and aging and death also. “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3)

Though very few people actually live to 120 years old, everyone dies. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) The body will cease functioning.

Yet Jesus offers eternal life. He says if you come to Him He will give you life. “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” (Revelation 21:6)

The life He gives transcends the earthly life and extends beyond the grave. Our spirit is made alive. When our heart stops, we are ushered in to heaven to live forever.

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” (John 20:31)
