Of All Things Be Prosperous and Healthy

horse 700x400“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2

The Apostle John, the one whom Jesus loved, the last of the original apostles, wrote to Gaius, a believer. We know nothing of him and don’t know when he wrote this letter. But under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit he writes God’s desire.

First, the author addresses the beloved. Every believer is the beloved. It God saying “Be loved.” Know how much God loves you. You are His beloved child.

Second, the word “wish” is not a “wish upon a star” wish. It’s more like I “pray.” It is God’s desire for every one of His beloved.

Third, “above” probably doesn’t mean more than anything else does, like salvation or grace. It more likely means “concerning” all things. Yet the context shows that the Holy Spirit could have listed many things here. He chose two things. Of all the things, a believer can think and pray about, for you I want to see you prosper and be in health. It very well could be His top priority for you.

Prospering is much larger than just finances, but certainly includes that as well. Prosperous people have something to give others. If love is prosperous in you, you have love to give. If joy is prosperous in you, you have joy to give. You are prosperous in order to give. I wish you a prosperous journey.

Health is always important. This is your total health and soundness. You can do so much more when you are healthy. God’s desire is that you live a full life and do so in total health.

These things happen as your soul prospers. You are in the Word growing in faith and understanding of grace. You prosper as you grow in relation to Jesus and His wisdom. Where did Solomon get his wisdom? Not just out of the thin air, but through God himself. Know Him and be prosperous and healthy.
