We Abound to Be Abounding

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

We looked at the all in our last devotional. We know “all” means “all.” It amazed us when God said He is well able to make all grace abound. I want to look at the word abound. I thought all grace was something we couldn’t even imagine. Then God adds abound.

Abound means to increase, exceeding, and abundance. God is able to make all grace exceedingly abundant toward you. I wonder if we have been thinking too small. We not only are participants in all God’s grace toward us, its abounding grace. It’s not just amazing; it’s super amazing.

Why does God abound all these things on us? Is it just to receive them and store them up? He does want to bless us that’s for sure. But in the Kingdom, we receive in order to give. God makes us prosperous, yes to enjoy all things, but also to give. If I have abounded in something, that means I have more than I need for family and myself. I have 12 baskets leftover to give to others.

“And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you.” (1 Thessalonians 3:12) Love manifests in both word and deed. I abound so I can abound toward others.

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings…” (Proverbs 28:20) Again, we abound in blessings so we can be an abounding blesser.
