A Look at Psalm 19 – Part 2

open bible with text

The other day we looked at the first part of verse 7 in Psalm 19. Today we want to delve into the remainder of the verse. Remember we’re still looking at God’s manual, His Word. In each of our studies we’ll learn more about the benefits that He has for you.

We said that God’s Word has His instructions for living the abundant life here on earth. It isn’t outdated or old or restrictive. It’s full of God’s goodness and blessings; and when you follow what the Word says, you will find life filled with peace and joy.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul:
the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”

The second half of this verse tells us that God’s Word is sure; it is true. It also tells us that it will make you wise. You don’t have to be a doctor or a person with multiple degrees to understand and live by God’s Word. Just in knowing His Word and acting on it in faith will make you wiser than anyone else.

The Word of the Lord is His testimony. It is HIS words. He spoke them. They are His witness to who He is. And God cannot lie; He cannot change WHO He is (Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 6:18). He is eternal – always was, is, and always will be (1 Timothy 1:17; Jude 1:25). His testimony is sure and strong, unshakeable. Everything else may fall away, but God’s Word remains steadfast, immoveable—forever (Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 1:25).

God’s Word, the Law of the Lord, His testimony not only changes hearts but makes the simplest person even smarter. You can gain deep understanding, wisdom, and knowledge simply by reading and following God’s Word. Psalm 1:2 says that the blessed man is the person who delights in the Law and meditates on it day and night.

As you spend time in God’s Word, you gain supernatural wisdom. And God encourages you to ask Him for more if you lack wisdom (James 1:5). If you lack understanding, He’ll give you wisdom which far surpasses man’s limited human understanding or wisdom.

If you’re in need of understanding things better, if you need wisdom in any business dealings or decisions, go to God’s Word. Seek it out. He will speak to you as you read His Word. Expect God’s blessing to be true in your life when you walk in the Law of the Lord (Psalm 119:1).
