A Look at Psalm 19 – Part 5

open bible with textToday we’re specifically looking at verse 10 of Psalm 19 as we continue our study of the benefits you have as a child of God. There’s a lot more to ALL that God has provided you through Jesus, so these aren’t the only benefits. I encourage you through these studies to dig further into the Word and discover for yourself the wonderful, transforming benefits of a God who loves you without measure.

“More to be desired are they than gold, yea than
much fine gold; sweet also than honey
and the honeycomb.”

The Psalmist here is continuing to talk about God’s Word, His Law, His precepts and commandments. That is what he says is to be desired more than anything else. More than even gold! We know that the price of gold in the world today varies, but I believe it’s higher in value now than at other times in the past. No matter what the price of gold is going for, God’s Word is worth MORE than that!

He says God’s Word is so good that it’s even better than honey from the honeycomb where it drips with succulent sweetness and your taste buds rejoice. God’s Word will provide greater pleasure than only what your taste buds enjoy because God’s Word affects every part of you: your body, your soul, and your spirit.

Jeremiah said that when he found God’s Words, he ate them (Jeremiah 15:16). He read them, devoured them as he would food and found that they brought him joy. The Word caused his heart to rejoice. You won’t find that type of pleasure if you just skim through the Bible. You’ve got to hunger for it and read it as if you’re eating a meal. As you partake of this spiritual food, you’ll be full and satisfied, body, soul, and spirit.

God’s Word rejoices your heart. It encourages you; it brings joy to your spirit. I dare say that when you’re reading the Word, you’ll be more cheerful throughout your day, too.

It’s time today to dig into God’s Word and dine on it. Learn what God has for you. Let His Word be your desire over anything else in this world. It’s a good day to read what God has for you, so don’t wait any longer.
