Blessed With All Spiritual Blessings

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3

Blessed or bless is a Greek word made up of two words—eulogeō—eu meaning well and logos meaning to speak. Therefore to bless is to speak well of. The first “blessed” is us blessing or speaking well of God and Jesus. Our blessing to Him is to speak about His grace, mercy, and goodness to others. It means to speak of His blessings to us as Paul does in this verse. It is an offering of praise to bless the Lord. It is pronouncing Him the Blessed God and Father.

I’m on Twitter and when I follow someone, they often follow me back. I bless them and they in turn bless me. We bless or praise and worship God because He hath blessed us. He is the One who already has blessed us. The participle refers to God and Father. The action is complete. He has blessed us. He always initiates. He blessed.

With what has He blessed us? He didn’t just say, “Bless you,” the way we do when someone sneezes. His blessing is spiritual. He blesses the spirit man. We walk in the spirit. We walk in the blessings.

God first blessed Adam and Eve but that blessing was lost through the fall. God restored it through Jesus. Every person “in Christ” has received the blessings. He has seated us with Him in heavenly places. (Ephesians 2:6)

All this is from the work of grace. This restorations of blessings is a gift. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law” (Galatians 3:13) and has blessed us.

He has blessed us with all of the blessing provided through His shed blood on the cross. Maybe we aren’t operating in all of the blessings. We might not even know all of the blessings. That is our part—to receive them by faith. Grace saved us and grace blessed us. Let’s believe all the blessings to work in our lives.
