Every One Gets The Gift

“But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.” Ephesians 4:7

Here is a verse for every one of us. Paul includes himself with all the believers.

We all have been given. God has granted, delivered, and bestowed upon us this amazing grace. Grace is a gift. A gift is a package all tied up nice and neat with a bow on top. The gift is from the finished work of Jesus on the Cross.

Grace is given according to the measure of the gift. This is often taught to mean that Jesus measures out different amounts of grace to each person. So you might not be measured out much since you’re such a flaky fellow. Or it’s the sovereignty of God in deciding who gets what. God does make choices. He chose Mary out of all the other young girls to be the mother of Jesus. He sees the beginning from the end.

It does seem like some people have a greater measure of grace. That is, grace is operating in great ways. The word says we don’t all have the same gifts. We have differing gifts according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:6) He has given us different work to do and He gives His grace to accomplish that work. Later in this passage, He gives some as pastors, teacher, etc. These are the ministry gifts. These God gives as He wills. I don’t know how He chooses who. That’s much bigger than my thoughts, so I just leave that to Him.

Yet, the grace of God is available to everyone. The fullness of God is within us. We have access to the throne of grace where we can find help in time of need. I think the gift of grace is available to all without measure. That’s the salvation package. That’s God seeing you as if you never sinned. That’s redemption, justification, forgiveness, holiness, healing and so on. That is for every believer.

Then there is the grace for doing the work God has for each one. Some he calls as a Billy Graham. He gives grace to do that work. Some he calls as deacons in a local church. He gives the grace needed for that work. He measures it out according to need. Charlene says she has grace to read  out loud in the car while we travel. Grace is the ability to do something you ordinarily couldn’t do. He doesn’t, however, skimp on His grace. He gives it abundantly. You have more than enough grace to do what He calls you to do. We are all highly favored and grace abounds in our everyday life. The results are amazing.
