Feeling Alone?

“I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the
goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
Psalms 27:13

Ever feel alone in life, like you’re out on a branch all by yourself? I’m sure you’re not alone. BUT even in the midst of tough times, even when things from the natural perspective look totally like a washout, you’re not without hope.

The cardinal in the picture above is all by himself. He’s in a tough situation: it’s winter, there’s snow on the ground and covers the trees where he likes to lodge. Getting food becomes more difficult; and on top of everything else, it’s just plain freezing cold. That’s the situation in the natural, the way life is going for him at that moment. But he’s hopeful; otherwise he’d give up, freeze to death, and let the snow gradually cover him over.

Too often we only see our situations and circumstances in the natural. That means we only see it the way it is, with natural limitations, without hope. But that isn’t how God wants you to see yourself or your situations and circumstances. It doesn’t matter what you see with your natural eyes. God’s promises in His Word supersede what you see around you. Abraham called those things which were not as though they were. God gave him a promise of an heir, a son, when he was well passed the time in his life. His wife had already gone through menopause; yet God promised him that his seed would be as numerous as the sands of the sea and the stars in the sky.

Abraham had to re-adjust his thinking about his natural world and begin to think like God. In fact, in the process his name changed. He had been Abram; but once God gave him that promise (and God always keeps His word!), God changed his name to Abraham which means father of many. So every time Abraham would greet someone and tell his name, he was proclaiming God’s promise, that he was the father of many even when there wasn’t yet one heir.

What are your circumstances and situations today? If things look impossible, they aren’t. If things look really bad, begin to see the good that God is bringing into your life. Don’t let what you see with your natural eyes determine how you live the rest of your life. See your life through Jesus Christ and all that God has given you. See yourself as God sees you….and, by the way, His picture of you is complete, where you lack nothing both in this natural world and in your spiritual life. Walk and live by faith in God’s Word, His promises to you, and you’ll soon not see yourself out there all alone, without hope. You’ll see yourself as a child of God who has great favor and God’s blessings working in your life.
