Every Knee Shall Bow And Confess

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

There is no greater name than the name of Jesus. There is no other name to which to bow, even though many bow to other names. It is only the name of Jesus, which God has exalted.

Jesus is the only way to salvation. To bow is to reverence. That’s the first step. That means understanding there is a God and you aren’t He. It means to humble oneself before God. It is a call for all to bow, and one day all will bow. The word “things” is in italics which means it isn’t in the text. So every knee in heaven, on earth, and under the earth will bow.

And not only to bow but to confess that Jesus is Lord. This is the gospel in a sentence. To confess is to believe and say that Jesus is my Lord. One day every tongue will confess. But before then every tongue should confess. Wouldn’t this world be a wonderful place if everyone confessed Jesus as Lord?

All this is to the glory of God the Father. We bring glory to God when we bow and confess that Jesus is our Lord. He is pleased at our confession of faith.
