Watering the Word

watering can watering plant-wide

“…as Christ also loved the church and gave
Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it

with the washing of water by the word
.”
Ephesians 5:25-26

We all know that a plant  won’t grow or survive without water. In fact, human beings and animals—anything living—can’t survive without water. Water is necessary for life.

Water is needed for our physical bodies, but how do we see the correlation for our spiritual lives? What is the water that you need to grow spiritually, to maintain a vibrant relationship with God?

In order to keep growing in your faith, you must eat God’s Word—that’s where studying and reading God’s Word is vital for you. The Word is the life-giving force that provides life-sustaining power each time you partake.

Paul speaks of the washing of the water by the word. The meaning of washing here in Greek refers to a baptism of water, a total immersion. This immersion allows God’s water to wash away the impurities in your heart, cleanse your thoughts, purify you, and regenerate life in you. This washing is the washing by the word, small “w”. The word “word”  refers to the word(s) you speak. Therefore, WHAT you speak into your life brings either life or death. You either baptize yourself with inactive words or with living-giving words.

You have the power to water God’s Word into your life by speaking His Word—that’s allowing the power of God’s Word to baptize and cleanse your mind, heart, and emotions. As you speak God’s Word, you set into motion the very power of what God has said. His Word will bring forth life in you. His Word will cleanse and purify you from the inside out. His Word will give life.

Let the watering of the Word revitalize and transform you today.
