Entering The Rest – Part 3

Waterfall

3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” Hebrews 4:3

Believers have entered into the rest. I don’t believe that rest is heaven. That is a rest but the “rest” I see here is a rest entered when you believe. It’s not a rest in the sweet bye and bye. It is a rest we don’t earn. We receive it by grace through faith.

The writer of Hebrews quoted several verses of Psalms 95. Here he quoted verse 11, “Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.” (Psalms 95:11) This once again took them back to where God judged then for their unbelief. God swore (He didn’t swear at them) in His wrath—He charged them or took an oath that they would not see the rest.

God had planned a rest for them. Because they did not believe, God wouldn’t allow them to enter into His rest.

God had this all planned and settled from the foundation of the earth. “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Revelation 13:8)

We will look into that more from the next verse in a couple of days. It’s important we understand this rest we are in as believers. The Word itself says a lot about rest. Most of us have to take some time for rest, but we have more than a physical rest. We have a rest that Jesus provided. We will continue to look at this subject next time.
