What to Ignore

I heard something that surprised me the other day on a TV program as they gave news highlights. “Some mosquitoes learn to ignore Deet.” Now in case you’re not clear just what Deet is, here’s what an on-line encyclopedia says about it:

N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide, abbreviated DEET, is a slightly yellow oil, the most common active ingredient in insect repellents, and when applied to the skin or to clothing, provides protection against tick bites, mosquito bites, and other insects.

Perhaps you’ve used it on occasion or are still using it, or a similar insect repellent. According to the TV program, Deet will no longer be a deterrent to the immune mosquito. What does that have to do with your spiritual life you ask? If mosquitoes can learn to ignore Deet, a strong chemical deterrent, then you and I can certainly learn to ignore the devices and schemes of the devil.

Yes, we live in a fallen world that already provides us with many challenges, obstacles, and difficulties. You can stay under that canopy and stay challenged, frustrated, and defeated. Or you can learn how to overcome the schemes of the enemy and be able to defeat him before he gets a foothold.

You can learn to ignore the advances of the enemy. You don’t need to allow your emotions to be in turmoil because of the thoughts the enemy throws at you (2 Corinthians 2:11). You don’t have to feel defeated because of his continual claims that you’re unworthy. You ARE worthy because Jesus died just for you. You have Jesus living IN you (Galatians 2:20). He isn’t just Jesus your Savior and that’s all. He isn’t just Jesus your Provider, and that’s all. He doesn’t come in slices. When you get Jesus, you get ALL of Him.

With the power of Jesus IN you, you can learn to ignore the poison and traps of satan by filling yourself up with the Word, strengthen your faith (Ephesians 6:11). God’s Grace will enable you to walk victorious, full of joy and power each day. You won’t stay defeated when you ignore the enemy and stand in the power of God.
