Where’s Your Mind?

The other day we learned that to have peace in our lives we must know the Giver of Peace: Jesus. We looked at the first part of Isaiah 26:3, and today we look at the second part of that verse.

“You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:

because He trusts in Thee.”

When your mind is focused and centered on the Lord and His Word, you’ll dwell in peace. But many things vie for your attention, your focus, in this world. Staying centered in your mind on God’s Word, His faithfulness, and His power will keep unpeace and unrest  from entering your thoughts and affecting your daily life.

The Amplified version puts it this way: “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed [focused] on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.”

Your mind, your imagination, your thoughts need to stay on the Prince of Peace. When your mind wanders to anything less, you can be led into unrest, turmoil, and certainly not peace. Joyce Meyer says that the “battlefield is the mind.” What you allow into your mind will either strengthen and encourage you or tear you down and totally defeat you.

The more you keep your mind and thoughts on the Lord, the stronger you’ll be. That means leaning on the Lord, on His Word, for direction, for wisdom, for strength. That means standing fast in faith on what He has promised you. That means establishing yourself in Him, and building yourself up in His Word. The more you do, the more your mind will be settled and at peace.

So don’t stay in a continual state of agitation or unrest. Focus your mind on the God who loves you, who has provided everything you need to live a truly wonderful life. Allow His peace to rule and reign in your mind and you’ll be a changed person.
