Entering The Rest – Part 7

Waterfall

“28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

We have been looking at “rest” the last few days. Jesus talks about rest.

Where do you find rest? Where is that place of rest? “Come unto me.” Jesus is the place of rest. Jesus is where the labor ceases and the rest begins.

If you have been trying to perform in order to gain the approval of God, then it’s time for you to rest. If you feel you are carrying the world on your shoulders, then Jesus is the place where you can remove those heavy burdens. If you’ve been trying to build a ministry or take care of kids, all on your own, then you need to find the place of rest in Jesus.

When you get yoked with Jesus then you burden is going to be light. This is a picture of oxen in a yoke, whereas pulling a plow is a picture of you trying to pull along your burdens through the heat of the day.

When you yoke up with Jesus, you aren’t going to have to pull much.

Some people say the being a Christian is hard. That’s not the picture Jesus gives here. You shouldn’t be struggling. When you are in the yoke with Jesus, you are at rest. If you are trying to obey all the laws and commandments of the Word, you are going to be heavy laden. Get into the place of rest where God’s laws (His Word) are written on your heart. You are at rest in Jesus.

“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.” (Psalms 16:9)
