Faith Isn’t Something You Try

IMG_2937-wide

The other day I heard several ministers sharing the Word and one made a strong statement. He said, “Faith isn’t something you ‘try’.”

In our fast-paced world everyone is pulled into the concept of “try it and you’ll love it”, or “if you try it and it doesn’t work, you can return it for a full refund.” Obviously these are sales gimmicks trying to get us to buy their featured product. Just try it!

The Christian life isn’t to be something you “try”. It isn’t like going clothes shopping where you want to ‘try on’ the clothes before you buy them and make sure they fit properly. (By the way, Christianity, that is, a real living relationship with God through Jesus, will fit properly on everyone!).

The same is true with your ”faith” as a believer. Faith believes. Faith is active; it isn’t passive or where the action is done to it. It is the action. Faith believes. So if you’re faith is ‘trying’ something in the Word, it hasn’t yet gotten to the point of believing the Word.

Many people, believers included, will say “I’ve tried everything; I guess I’ll believe God now”. That’s the problem….they’re tryers. They take turns trying this aspect of Christianity or that aspect, but when things don’t go the way they want them to, they give up and say “well, I’ve tried that and it didn’t work”.

Excuse me? God’s Word always works. It is alive and powerful. In order for it to work properly you must combine it with faith. Faith acting on God’s Word—what God has said—will totally transform your life.

Don’t just try faith. Take what faith you’ve got, and grow it in God’s Word. Pretty soon you won’t be ‘trying’ it; you’ll be speaking it, walking in it, seeing God working in your midst. Be a believer!
