“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

How confident are you? How confident are you that God loves you so much He isn’t going to leave you half done?

Paul said he was confident of this one important thing. He was persuaded, in agreement with, and believing in this very thing. He had a confidence in Christ. Being fully persuaded himself personally. It wasn’t just what someone said. It is what he knew and believed in his heart.

Yet he didn’t believe this for himself alone. He believed in the Philippians, in you, and in me. His confidence was not in himself but in God Himself.

Three important things jump out at me. First, God begins good work in us. God initiates. He begins things in us.

Second, He is using us to do His work—his good work—here on the earth. He has us doing what He desires us to do until He comes back. He actually wants us to participate in His purposes and plans. He puts the plan within us. He has begun a good work in you.

Third, He will finish the good work He began. He won’t leave you part way to try to work out His plan by yourself. He will perform it. He will accomplish what He desires through you. He will perfect the good work through you. Good works are for the benefit of others and the Body of Christ.

He will perform the impossible in and through you. Be confident of that very thing. He begins and He completes.
