Philippians Favorites – 1:2

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2

A typical opening to one of Paul’s letters. However, it is far more than ordinary. Paul is writing on behalf of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s quite an opening. How many of us would presume to write that?

We all should. We are the children of God. We are ambassadors going forth in the name of Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:20) An ambassador brings news and greeting from their home country. Paul knew he was a citizen of Heaven. He was proclaiming grace and peace from his home country.

The Kingdom of God works through words.Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1:13) When we speak God’s words, we get God’s results.

Therefore when Paul speaks, “grace and peace,” he is speaking grace and peace into the hearers’ lives. Speaking God’s word brings life. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21)

As ambassadors and joint-heirs with Jesus, you can speak His words just as if they are coming from Him. That means you can say to someone grace and peace to you from God and from our Lord Jesus. The word is alive. It brings healing and restoration. Grace is all that Jesus did for us on the cross. Speak that it into someone today.
