Receive Thy Sight

receiving a present pic-wide

I’m sure in Jesus’ day there were many blind men, and they would sit at the side of the way into various cities. The account in Luke 18:35-43 speaks of “a certain blind man” who sat by the wayside begging. Something interesting happened to this man, though, when Jesus came to Jericho. The blind man heard the commotion but of course couldn’t see the entourage with Jesus or the multitudes following Him into the town, so he asked someone what all the noise was about. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth going by, he immediately cried out asking for God’s mercy and grace. There were some who tried to hush him up, but he kept calling to Jesus, asking for His grace and mercy.

Finally Jesus stopped and asked for that man to be brought to him, and then simply asked the blind man what he wanted Him to do. You can guess what the man’s reply was, right? “That I may receive my sight.”

Jesus simply told him Receive thy sight: thy faith has saved you.”  What happened next? The man could see and he followed Jesus and continued giving glory to God. He exercised his faith in what Jesus told him. The blind man was not blind anymore!

What Jesus told the former blind man is no different from what He tells you or me today. He says receive. It’s as simple as that, yet most of the time we try to make it more complex.

Receiving from God is not based on what you’ve done or not done. It’s not based on your merits at all. It’s based on what Jesus did for you. See it this way: your best friend brings you a birthday present. It’s all wrapped and you’re so excited that they remembered your special day. They hand it to you and you hold out your hands to receive it, and you take it and immediately open the gift. That’s how easy it is to receive what you need from your Heavenly Father.

What do you need Jesus to do for you today? Speak forth that need, and then receive it. Take it as yours. Your Heavenly Father is not holding back on you. He desires to freely give you all things. Get ready to receive what He has for you today.
