That I May Know Him

“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection….”
 Philippians 3:10

A friend on Facebook had this quote on their page not long ago. “Consider the postage stamp: its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there.” (Josh Billings)

At first read we all chuckle at this quote, but if you dig into the meaning, you’ll find there is much more to the ordinary postage stamp.

The postage stamp is only useful when it’s used. Now that’s a profound thought, isn’t it? But it’s true. The postage stamp on an envelope doesn’t mean anything until you drop it in the mailbox to send it to wherever. THEN it becomes useful and fulfills its purpose.

What does that have to do with spiritual things? Look at the scripture above.  “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…” The awesome and unlimited power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ isn’t understood until you know Him—the same as understanding what a postage stamp does for you when you place it on a letter to send someone.

You can know about the resurrection and recognize that Christian scholars agree that Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected, thus providing man with eternal life; but if you don’t personally know Jesus, you won’t know and understand the power of His resurrected life in YOU.

God’s power hasn’t changed at all since Jesus was on earth. God’s power is still readily available for every believer. If you’re not seeing or understanding God’s power in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, then you don’t fully know who Jesus is.

Dig into the Word and start learning more about Jesus. Read about the Lord of Love, of Joy, of Peace; the Lord of Grace. Open your heart and your thinking to understand in greater depth the power of His resurrection at work in your life.
