The Secret Place Is the Place of Rest

“And the land had rest from war.” Joshua 14:15

“And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.”1 Samuel 17:47

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8

God’s place of rest is also a rest from war. Any warfare we do is from the place of rest.

It’s not our weapons. It’s not our battle. Jesus conquered the works of the devil. So our warfare is by faith in God’s power and the finished work of Jesus. Jesus said it was finished. No more works, only rest.

The fact that the devil is still going around like a roaring lion tells us we still have to be on guard. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

However, if we will keep our eyes on Jesus, the devil will flee. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) We resist from a place of rest. We resist by faith. We rest in the secret place.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. (Psalms 91:1-2)

God has hidden us in His fortress. Our faith and trust is in Him to handle the enemy outside the walls. Our part is to rest in His finished work.
