Times of Refreshing

refreshing water of shower-1

You know how a shower refreshes you after a long hard day at work or a physically challenging workout. The human body needs times to be refreshed, to be revitalized, and to replenish necessary liquids and nutrients, especially when physical exertion has taken place. You also recognize that your physical body automatically regains some ‘refreshment’ when you just sleep. Had you considered that you also need times of spiritual refreshing? Spiritual refreshing is as important, if not more important, than physical refreshing.

The concept of ‘times of refreshing’ caught my eye not long ago when I came across an interesting scripture in Acts 3:19: “…turn to God…that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Peter and John were sharing with Jews and other people, about the authenticity of what Jesus had accomplished—what His death, burial, and resurrection really meant. Some believed; some didn’t. But Peter told them that to experience times of refreshing they would need to come and be restored to God through Jesus, accepting His atonement for their sins. Peter wanted them to turn back to God to experience times of refreshing. Isaiah put it well: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength [be refreshed]; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Today, through the finished work of Jesus on the Cross times of refreshing have already been provided for you. Jesus has provided ALL that you need to enjoy His blessings in abundance, and the more time you spend with Him, in His presence, the more refreshed you’ll be.

And the exciting thing about being refreshed—body, soul, and spirit—is that each time you are in His presence, you receive more refreshing. God wants you to be refreshed with the finished work of Jesus for you. He wants you to experience His power and love through His inexhaustible Grace. The God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills is generous and wants you to be refreshed, rejuvenated, and revitalized every time you spend time with Him.

I encourage you to take some time today and spend it in His presence, in His Word, and expect to come away refreshed. Times of refreshing are available for you!
