Philippians Favorites – 4:4

rejoice-in-the-lord 700x400“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

This is one of my favorite favorites. Probably because it’s easy to remember but more important it’s a reminder not to let things get me down.

Every day has its own set of challenges. Some can get you down. If you let them, you can even get depressed. Maybe you got one of those “unexpected bills.” Just watching the gas prices is a bummer. That’s when we need to remember Philippians 4:4.

This is something you can quote to yourself when your life overwhelms you. Like David who said, “And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.” (Psalm 35:9) David had to talk to his soul—his mind, will, and emotions.

We all need an attitude of constantly rejoicing. It’s not just being happy in bad circumstances; it’s knowing why we are happy. God has done marvelous things for us. His grace is sufficient for every situation. We rejoice because of what He has done for us.

It’s not mind over matter. It’s renewing our mind with the Word so we know our rights in Christ. We know our covenant. We know that whatever the situation, it is temporary and God is working good for me in every situation.

Rejoice not in what you have done or in your capabilities, but in what the Lord has done and His capabilities. In Him everything is possible.
