Open Bible pic-wide
PSALM 119:17-24

Hebrew G-Gh-Gimel

(G, Gh)

17 “Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
18
Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!
20 My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times.
21
You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments.
22
Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies.
23
Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant
will meditate on your statutes.

24
Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.”

Psalm 119:17-24, ESV

As we’re discovering, some of these “stanzas” in Psalm 119 need several days to really dig into the nuggets of truth that God has for us. Today we’ll finish verses 17-24 in our second part of these eight verses.

The other day as we begin this portion we saw that God’s blessings come when you follow God’s way and His Word. But it’s not only living by His Word, but hearing it, receiving it, and then following it and putting it into action. I trust that as you are studying this particular Psalm you are also asking the Lord to open your eyes more and more so you can walk in the truth of His Word. You can’t totally understand God’s Word without the power of the Holy Spirit giving you understanding. As you ask for His help, He’ll give you revelation and understanding in a greater way than you’ve had before.

Even in the midst of obstacles where everyone else seems to be against you, even ridicule you for your stand of faith (verses 22-23), you can stand strong for the Lord, because the greater one lives big in you. When you continue to meditate on His Word and make it part of your daily walk, you’ll be stronger, rooted and grounded in Him (Ephesians 3:17), and walking in love. You’ll be spiritually minded which Paul says in Romans 8:5 is life and peace. You’ll know what you are to do, where you are to go, what you are to say. So then, if you’re not totally experiencing life and peace in your life, start meditating on God’s Word. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) That sounds like good counsel to me from God’s Word.
