Quicken Your Mortal Body

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that
raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by
his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11

Last time we discussed death, heaven, and our new heavenly bodies. Today I want to discuss the promise “quicken your mortal bodies” from a different aspect.

“Quicken” is to give life or make alive. “Mortal” is subject to death. This passage, if taken literally (and I think we can) says that the Spirit will bring life to the bodies we now live in. To me that is healing.

The curse brought on by sin and the work of Satan on the earth, included illness. ”Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law…” (Deuteronomy 28:60-61) But Jesus became a curse for us. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14)

Furthermore, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24) The new covenant includes healing.

Therefore, by faith we believe that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, that same resurrection power, shall also bring healing to our mortal bodies. God wants us to live a full life of quality health. Our part is to believe for our healing through the promises of the Word.
