PSALM 119:153-160
 Hebrew R-Resh

(R)

153 Look on my affliction and deliver me,
for I do not forget your law.
154
Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life
according to your promise
!
155
Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.
156
Great is your mercy, O Lord;
give me life according to your rules.
157 Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do
not swerve from your testimonies.
158 I look at the faithless with disgust, because they
do not keep your commands.
159 Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according
to your steadfast love.
160 The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your
righteous rules endures forever.
Psalm 119:153-160, ESV

In our study of this particular stanza today we again find the Psalmist seeking deliverance and redemption from the Lord because he continues believing God’s Word and His promises. We’ve seen the Psalmist in a variety of circumstances through Psalm 119; and no matter what he encountered, he always came back to the Word of God. His hope, his peace, his joy, and his life was founded and grounded in God’s Word.

He knew God’s Word was true; and He knew the benefits and blessings of following the Lord. He testified to God’s blessings in Psalm 103, and it would do us well to take a look at His marvelous benefits because they are yours as a child of God, and there no expiration date.

2 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your
youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

The Psalmist found a life of God’s blessings and abundance as he continued to seek the Lord and believe His Word. Rejoice today in God’s blessings for you and receive them by faith which is simply a positive response to what God has already provided by Grace.
