PSALM 119:161-168

Hebrew Sh-Shin

 (Sin and Shin)

161 Princes persecute me without cause, but my
heart stands in awe of your words.

162
I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.
163
I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law.
164
Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous rules.
165
Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble.
166 I hope for your salvation, O Lord, and I do your commandments.
167 My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
Psalm 119:161-168

We’re continuing in this portion of scripture today because there’s so much more to glean—important wisdom and truth that will enable you to be victorious each day.

We learned more about the shalom of God yesterday, but without the peace of God at work in your life, you truly won’t know or understand rest. And this rest is not just the cessation of work in the natural. It’s much more.

Daily we hear of unrest in the world. It’s really the absence of God’s peace and presence. Without God in the equation of your life, you won’t have peace or true rest. Rest is more than just relaxing and getting a few winks of sleep. That’s physical rest, and yes, it’s important for our physical bodies. But true Biblical rest ties in with God’s peace. So many people today are bound to religious thought that continually has them doing something to earn or gain their salvation or God’s approval. That’s man’s attempt to be righteous before God but it falls short. Jesus already provided the spiritual rest for man by His sacrifice. You and I don’t have to keep doing the law in order to be made right. We are in right-standing with God through Jesus’ sacrifice for us.

The rest of God is the work of Christ for you and I. When you know what Jesus has accomplished for you, you’re at rest, no longer striving to do works to ensure your salvation or approval before God or gain healing. Because of what Jesus provided through His life, there are no more works required. Our part is to REST in His provision, believe what He has already provided for us. The Psalmist knew in part his authority because of what God’s Word told him, and he believed the Word. You and I are at a greater advantage today because Jesus is in us, and we can take our place of authority against anything that tries to steal our peace and rest. 1 John 4:17 says “because as Jesus is, so are we in this world.”

There’s not only the shalom peace of God available to you today, but the rest of God because of what Jesus has done for you. Be at rest today and rejoice!

Look within and be depressed,
Look around and be distressed,

Look at Jesus and be at rest.
