We Have An Inheritance

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:17

So what did we inherit? We are joint-heirs with Christ so all He has we have inherited. Certainly, the most important thing is eternal life. “And for this cause he is the mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” (Hebrews 9:15)

“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:4) Scripture points out that God has reserved part of our inheritance for when we get to Heaven. We don’t know too much about that part of our inheritance. However, knowing the God of creation, we can expect that part will be spectacular. If the roads are gold, and our houses are mansions, then we can look for a wonderful inheritance in Heaven.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Jesus is heir of all things. We are joint-heirs with Him. I don’t believe the whole inheritance is for Heaven. I believe we receive part of that now. I believe that grace and blessing is part of what we inherit just the same as eternal life starts when you are born again. Everything Jesus did for us on the cross is part of our inheritance. Just the fact that we have a restored relationship with God, is amazing. He has allowed us back into the Garden to eat of the Tree of Life.

“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12) All the promises are ours as well. What we receive is by faith. We were born again by grace through faith. We live our lives here on earth by grace through faith. We receive the promises by faith. We have to receive our inheritance by faith. As children of God, we are heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs of Christ.
