Faith Stands Still

“…having done all to stand, stand.” Ephesians 6:13

The other day we defined faith as a verb–active, yet there is another facet to faith that may sound opposite. Rick Renner recently said that ‘faith knows what it wants, and faith stands still. Faith doesn’t waver’. Faith is more than just an action word. It believes and trusts a faithful God and what He has promised and provided in His Word.

When you begin to stand on God’s Word, believing for His promises and provisions to manifest and be fulfilled in your life, you are putting your faith into action. And, while you are doing this, it may take time to see God turn things around for you. That’s where patience comes in. All the while faith is still working. Just because you don’t see the answer immediately doesn’t mean God’s Word isn’t true or that He isn’t working on your behalf. He’s always working for you.

James speaks of faith that doesn’t waver (James 1:6-7). It isn’t tossed back and forth between belief and unbelief. Faith believes and waits to see its fulfillment. It’s like a taking a firm stand in the ocean as the waves come in and then draw back out. The undercurrent of the waves wants to erode the exact spot where you’re standing. But the stronger you dig in and stand still, you are able to overcome the obstacles and stand strong. It’s steeling yourself – bracing yourself and establishing your feet securely in a position, not deviating from that point or moving. With all your strength and focus, you steel yourself.

That’s the action of faith. It stands still and keeps believing God and His Word. It’s ‘having done all to stand, keep standing.’ (Ephesians 6:13)

It’s time to take your stance. Steel yourself in the Lord. Stand still and be strong in your faith. Don’t let your faith waver in your focus but stand tall and strong because God is faithful!
