God and Color Constancy

red apple on table-2-wideListening to a local Christian radio station on one of our trips this year, I learned a little about color constancy. I’d never heard of that before. Basically, it is a vision process that God has provided in our bodies, and this process allows the brain to recognize an object that is familiar as being a consistent color regardless of the time of day or amount of light that is reflecting on it at any given moment. You get the idea if you think about an apple. In the morning a red delicious apple on the kitchen table is round and red. Later on in the day or evening that same red delicious apple is still round and red. That’s the laymen’s explanation of color constancy.

So what does that have to do with our spiritual lives you ask?

God has always been a Planner. What may first appear to us as something very simple in nature, when we delve into it, the more we learn just how complex a small insect is or even how a butterfly is drawn to colorful flowers. It shouldn’t surprise us then that God planned for color constancy in our bodies and because He did we are able to perceive His wonderful creation and stand in awe.

God has provided what is needed for us both to live physically and spiritually in this world. The next time you see a red delicious apple, or another variety of apple, be reminded of God’s plans,  good things for your life – for a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). The God who knew and planned for color constancy is the same God who knows your needs and is able to provide for you.
