What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31

What do you say? What else is there to say? “These things” can mean the last few verses of God working His plan for our lives and the fact that God has predetermined, called, justified, and glorified us or it means all the way back to Chapter 1. To all these things, what do we have to say?

There are many people saying many things today. Do they line up with what Paul is teaching through the anointing of the Holy Spirit? Paul lays out the plan of God’s grace. What do you say? Many today are rejecting the message of grace and trying to keep us under the law. That’s what they say. They disagree with Paul.

“If” is normally a conditional word. Paul isn’t saying “if” with the idea of wondering, but more of the idea of “since.” Paul may be saying, that since you have heard all “these things,” don’t you think God is for you. The whole teaching of Paul reveals in greater depth of revelation that God is for you. If you haven’t learned that, then you haven’t learned the essence of Paul’s teaching as well as the essence of the gospel.

God is for you—always, all the time. If then God, the creator, the mighty God, all-powerful God is for you, who can be against you? Yes, there are many who are against us. Satan and all his hosts want to kill, steal, and destroy and good you might do. He uses people to come against you. We have adversaries. We war against powers seen and unseen.

Yet, in comparison to God, are their feeble attempts worthy of even a cursory thought? We sit in the midst of our enemies feasting on the good things of God. We are at rest in the grace of God. No one can really be against us. Nothing (as we will see in verse 38 and 39) can separate us from the love of God. Not even what we do wrong. We are in Christ, and nothing can take us from that place. God is FOR you.
