Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.   Romans 8:37

In verses 35 and 36, Paul painted a gloomy picture of what Christians were facing. We know in those times ahead of Paul there was great persecution and death for the believers. It cost to take a stand of faith.

However, Paul saw those things and said we are more than conquerors. The Greek word for “more than conquerors” is made up of two words—hyper and nikaō. We get our work hyper meaning “greatly exceeding, excessive.” We hear the hyperactive today as children that can’t sit still.

Paul looked at “all these things” and said we are hyper conquerors. We are super conquerors. No matter the outcome, we are conquerors. It’s a win-win situation for us.

However, how can you be more than a conqueror? You see the thing is, we didn’t do anything. Jesus did it all. God so loved the world He gave His Son. He that loved us from the beginning is our conqueror. God is more than a conqueror. Through Him we see the victory.

When you are faced with difficulties—perils, remember rest in Christ. He is the conqueror. It’s from the Greek word nikē. Is that a familiar word? Nike means victory. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4)

Our part is to rest. When we rest, God works. When we try to be the conqueror, God rests and let’s us try. The work of Jesus is finished. We can’t add to it. We can rest in knowing that in Jesus we are more than conquerors.
