Happy Childhood

Kids at Dennis Port

Grandkids and son-in-law at Dennis Port 2013

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.” Luke 18:17

As Fini de Gersigney (pastor of Jubilee Church in Sidney) likes to say, “it’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”

We know that we are to grow up and not remain as a child. We also know that physically we grow up and do not remain as a child. There is a maturing as well as a growing from milk to meat. However, alongside this runs a parallel stream. We are to be like a child.

Religion makes people serious. Childhood, however, is fun or should be. Christianity is fun. Why would anyone want to be a Christian if we say to them, come receive Christ, but you have to give up all your fun.

A child also is totally trusting of their parents. Even though in today’s culture many have justification not to trust anyone. I’ve seen children of rotten parents still love and trust their parents. Even kids of killers still love their parents because they don’t see them in any other way besides mother or father.

We, however, can absolutely trust our heavenly father. He won’t give you bad things. He protects and cares for His children.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26) We are children of God. We aren’t servants or slaves. We aren’t hired hands in the kingdom. We are children. We should be having a happy childhood. We can be happy children.

God supplies our needs. He cares for us. He has offered grace to us, which are all the benefits of God through the finished work of Jesus. He takes care of His children.

So let’s have a happy childhood in Jesus.
