I Got Your Back Jack

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” Psalm 23:6

I got your back, Jack. Goodness and mercy is following me all throughout my lifetime and beyond.

Both words are replete with meaning. The Greek word for goodness means favor, loving, pleasure, precious, prosperity, and wealth. Just to name a few.

God’s provision and favor is always right behind me.

The word for mercy is the covenant Hebrew word, “ḥesed”. This word means “loving-kindness, steadfast love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, goodness, and devotion” (Vines) The meaning I want to showcase is “grace.”

In the Hebrew Christian Bible, the New Testament word they translate for grace is “hesed.” So I can legitimately say that prosperity  and grace are following me. Actually, prosperity is part of God’s grace, so it is really God’s grace that is covering me from the back.

“… he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.” (Psalm 32:10) Here mercy is again the word “hesed.” Not only will God’s grace follow me, but it will also compass me about—surround me.

I got your back, Jack, with grace all the days of your life.
