Ears to Hear God – Part 1

hearing from God pic“The Lord God has given me the tongue of
the learned….He wakes me morning by morning,
He wakes my ear to hear
as the learned.”
Isaiah 50:4

In the hectic and fast paced day-to-day world, I’m sure you hear hundreds of ‘sounds’, yet you have the ability to block out most of them in order to concentrate on what you need to do. There are even ‘aids’ to help you hear better; but these only reference your natural hearing. What about your spiritual hearing?

We’re going to be looking into this topic of hearing, how it works naturally, and how you can develop your spiritual hearing. God desires to speak to you and will as you tune your ears to hear Him.

Hearing necessitates a relationship. Every day you hear your family, friends or co-workers talk to you and you speak with them because you have on-going relationships with them. Without a spiritual relationship with God, you won’t be able to hear Him speak to you; and He longs for that relationship with you. Make sure you have this vital relationship first.

Deuteronomy 4:35-36 declares “…that you might know that the Lord He is God; there is none else beside Him. Out of Heaven He made you to hear His voice, that He might instruct thee.”

In the New Testament, the Apostle John talks about the relationship the shepherd has with his sheep, and says that Jesus is our Shepherd and we are the sheep. In this relationship built on love and trust, the sheep easily hear the voice of the shepherd. “…and the sheep hear His voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out…My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:2-3;27).

In a vital and living relationship you want to hear from the other person; that’s how your bond grows. In your growing bond and fellowship with God, He will speak to you. Determine today that you are open and you will hear what He will say to you. We’ll build on this further in Part 2.
