Positively Electric

“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect
in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

I didn’t have to take chemistry in school (thank goodness), but there are fascinating elements of chemistry in God’s Word. Recently I heard a pastor share about electricity—atoms, protons, and electrons—and how they relate to the Word of God working in our life. Needless to say it got me excited, and I hope you’ll get excited, too, when you see God’s message in all of this.

Most of the time if you’ve heard anything about 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, it’s probably centered on Paul’s ‘thorn in the flesh’ with all the debate on what that could be. I don’t want to center on that; I want to understand his testimony in the midst of it; and that’s where chemistry is involved.

All matter consists of atoms, and the basic characteristic of an atom is that atoms each include protons, neutrons, and electrons, the basic building block of matter. Each electron has a negative electrical charge while each proton has a positive electrical charge. And, not surprising, electrons and protons are (electrically) attracted to each other. When you combine a positive with a negative, you’ll get an electric charge: power!

Paul shared that when his inability in himself (his negative charge) connected to the positive charge of God’s ability, something happened: supernatural, miracle-working power resulted. The negative electron connected to the positive proton. Paul testified that it was when he didn’t rely on himself, his good works or his ability, that God’s power was truly manifested in his life in greater dimension. The negative met the positive and it was positively electric!

You can experience this each time you rely on God grace and His power. He doesn’t leave you to go it alone. He’s there to help you, to complete your inabilities with His grace and enable you to be strong in Him. It’s a matter of relying on Him and not yourself. The more you do, the more you’ll experience God’s rest as His grace and power resides in you. It’ll be positively electric indeed! Christ in YOU, the hope of glory.
