Remember The Benefits

Gatlinburg 2013

Gatlinburg Tennessee 2013

1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5

I like Psalm 103:1-5. Yes, there are things in the Old Covenant that apply to the New Covenant. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” (Hebrews 8:6) The “benefits” are now established through the finished work of Jesus on the Cross.

We should not forget these benefits. Repeatedly God tells us to remember. “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel.” (2 Timothy 2:8)Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.” (Hebrews 13:7) “Remember Lot’s wife.” (Luke 17:32) “Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth.” (Psalm 105:5) And that is just a small sampling of remember verses.

It’s important to remember dates in your life—your birthday, your spouse’s birthday, anniversary, children’s ages and birthdays, etc. To remember means to rehearse, make mention, be mindful, and remember. (Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.) There have been all kinds of suggestions on how to remember such as tie a string around your finger.

Here in Psalms we are to remember God’s benefits. We are a people who easily forget. That’s why God has to tell us to remember. He wants our best. Let’s not forget the benefits. So rehearse daily the benefits you have received.
