The Purity of God’s Words

Gettysburg

Gettysburg

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” (Psalm 12:6)

Sometimes when you are reading the Psalms, you will see David struggling with life. The Psalm may not readily reveal something you can “take with you.” However, another look and couched in there somewhere will be a gem. It’s like digging for treasure. When you seek, you will find something.

The word of the Lord is pure and clean. There is no preservatives, no gluten, and is not mixed with things you can’t pronounce. His Word is pure. His words are good words and will not return void. They are the Words of God and are alive. “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)

The words of God are tried. From the time they were spoken, people have embraced them, trusted them, and they have never failed. We have often misinterpreted them, misunderstood them, and misapplied them; but they have never failed or never changed. Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” (Psalm 119:89)

Jesus came as the Word. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14) Jesus is the express image of God. He is the Word of God made into a human and came to us to rescue us. Jesus is the Word of Life.

Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” (John 15:3)
