In Times of Trouble

engine repair 700x400

“1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

Have you seen any trouble in your walk with the Lord? If not, you are a rare bird. If you do a search on trouble song lyrics, you will find many songs sung about troubles. “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen.” “There is trouble in River City.” Even the Beatles had a song about trouble.

When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be” (Beatles – Let It Be Lyrics)

Trouble it seems is a popular theme because everyone has their troubles. Even Jesus said we would have trouble. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:34 NKJV)

So if we know we will have some trouble, what do we do? David says that even if the earth moves and the mountains fall into the sea he would not fear. That’s pretty drastic. He would allow no fear into his life.

It’s not just a firm commitment not to fear. It’s not will power. It is faith in knowing God is our refuge and strength. He is our help in those times of trouble. He is your protection. He is the help you need to go through, around, or over the trouble.

Trouble is not from God. He isn’t trying to teach us something by giving us trouble. Trouble happens in the society we live in. We can ask God to help us avoid trouble. We can ask God to help us get through it if it is unavoidable. God will cause all things to work for our good, even our trouble. And we can help others who are in times of trouble. He is our comfort.

“3Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
