Beware of Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.”
(Psalm 56:5)

You might think this is a strange scripture for a devotional. It’s too bad we have even to be concerned about it. However, many complainants out there don’t want to hear our message. There are wresting our words to say things we don’t mean or mean things we don’t say.

One TV teacher has a blog written about him calling him the most dangerous on Christian TV. Everyone standing for the grace message will be maligned. The most common misguided thought will be, you will just give people a license to sin. First, they don’t need a license to sin. You can’t buy one anywhere. Second, they don’t understand grace.

They twist our words. They take things out of context. They cut snippets out of a paragraph, which makes it seem like something is said that is not. Few TV preachers will go on a talk show or a secular TV program because the host will turn their words against them.

Jesus warned that we would be put to the test.Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16 )

Jesus calls them wolves. They try to infiltrate the sheepfold and devour the sheep.

We have to know the Word and speak the truth. We must be wise to their ways but not become followers of their ways. We are to speak the truth in love. We must not be offended by their wrestling our words. We don’t have to defend the Word or God. We just speak what God has said. Pray for your enemies. You can’t have enemies if you pray for them. And don’t be surprised to find a wolf under that sheep suit.
