Colossians 2:20 – Dead With Christ

Colossians 2-20 700x400
“Wherefore, if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why,
as though living in the
world, are ye subject to ordinances.”
Colossians 2:20

In Colossians 2:20 Paul sounds like he’s talking as a parent to the Colossian church and the brethren: ‘WHY are you living under the ordinances, rules, and regulations that kept you in bondage (the law), because you’re dead to those since you’ve been resurrected with Christ?” A legitimate question. Their actions did not line up with their new life and position in Christ.

Paul had to remind the Colossian church that since they’d received Christ, they should continue walking in Him and not according to the world (Colossians 2:6). The world and its way wants you to be subject to the legalistic pattern of trying to earn your forgiveness and salvation which is really all man’s efforts. Paul is showing them that you can’t mix that with Christ’s finished work. It doesn’t fly but in fact, nullifies His work.

You died with Christ. But you didn’t stay there. He resurrected you to new life, and that’s the life you’re to follow now. It’s a life full of His acceptance, love, blessings, and grace. When you embrace His finished work, you’ll truly be living in the freedom God planned for you.

Don’t go backward. Go forward with Christ.
