Romans 6:4 – Buried With Him

Romans 6-4 700x400

“Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that  like Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4

The other day we read Colossians 3:3, and it certainly backs up this verse in Romans. Paul wants believers to understand that they were buried with Christ by baptism and as a result were raised up into a new life, a new identity, a new person.

Paul continues to drive the point home by emphasizing this important fact. You are a new person now. You died and were buried with Christ and are now resurrected and made new. I’m sure you’ve heard the translation that says you’re an entirely new species of being. That’s your new life. The old you is gone.

Baptism gives you the picture of how your life is changed and transformed when you accepted God’s gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus. And the transformation continues as you walk in this new life—newness of life.

Your spirit has been reborn. The newness of life comes as you allow His Word to conform you to His grace. That means remembering that the old you, the old life is past. That means there is a new way of walking that exemplifies God’s love, power, and grace in your life and it comes through the process of continually conforming your thoughts to God’s thoughts.

That’s the newness of life is awaits us each day. Each day holds new revelation of God’s love and grace in our lives. Each day will allow us to be changed by His Word from glory to glory. Let’s keep walking in this newness of life IN Christ.
