Stay Teachable

praising the Lord pic-wide

“Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me; for Thou art the God of
my salvation; on You do I wait all day long.”
Psalm 25:5

The old adage that you can’t teach an old dog a new trick is incorrect. Case in point: we had a little dog some years back who, at age 7, was able to learn several tricks that she consistently performed. She wasn’t too old to teach. Consistency in teaching her helped our dog reach the goal of doing the trick on command.

What does that have to do with my spiritual walk you ask? I’m glad you asked. It’s the same frame of reference that David speaks of in this verse. He is asking for a teachable heart. He says lead me, Lord, and teach me.

You’re never too old to learn more; and how true that it is in your spiritual walk. The more you know, the more you know that you don’t know. Your spiritual journey should be one of continued growth, of deeper revelations of God’s love and grace. David didn’t just want a head knowledge, but he wanted a heart knowledge that would direct his steps and actions.

David wanted to stay teachable. He wanted to continue seeing deeper and new revelations of God; and in order to move into those areas, he would have to keep his mind and heart open, ready to receive and do.

How about you? Is your heart and mind open to further revelation of God’s Word, to see and understand more than you’ve seen and understood before? Stay teachable because the more teachable you are, the more you will see God’s power and grace in your midst. And where you are now will continue to help you get to where you will go tomorrow.
