2 Corinthians 1:21 – Established in Christ

2 cor 1-21 700x400

“21Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,
22who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”
(2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NASB)

Paul lists additional important parts to being in Christ. God has established us and anointed us in Christ. God the Father is the “He who.” Nothing is apart from Christ. God firmly attached us to Christ.

Paul said God has established him and us in Christ. Paul puts himself in the same boat as we are. God has firmly fixed, set in concrete our position in Christ. Nothing can move us. Nothing can separate us.

Religion tries to make you think you have to use effort to ensure your daily relationship with God. If you don’t perform, you will not please God and He might just turn His back on you. Therefore, you must work out your salvation to make sure it’s good today.

That’s not what this verse says. God has established, anointed, sealed, and given the Holy Spirit to us. Every day He establishes us. We should never doubt our position in Christ. It’s a secure place. We are children and will always be children of God.

In Christ, we also have an anointed. “As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.” (1 John 2:27 NASB) This anointing also abides in us because we are in Christ. Through this anointing, we come to know truth through the teaching of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to have everything explained to us. He teaches us all things.

In Christ, He has sealed us—put His stamp of protection and security on us. Our spirits are secure and fixed in Christ. Nothing can separate us from His love.
