2 Corinthians 5:19 – Reconciled in Christ

2 cor 5-19 700x400

“18Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-19 NASB)

God was, in Christ, reconciling the world. God so loved the world. (John 3:16) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Ever since the fall of man, God was working at reconciling the world. This was all set in motion from before the foundation of the world.

Man was alienated from God by the sin of Adam. We were enemies. “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10)

Since the world was out of harmony with God, God had to step in and offer reconciliation. Only God could settle the differences and put us back in harmony with Him. He did this through Jesus. He sent Jesus to reconcile us to Himself. The world has been reconciled, sins have not been imputed, He offers reconciliation to the world.

That’s why He has given us the word of reconciliation. That’s the word of grace. God is no longer mad. Jesus has carried the wrath and sin of the world. Now we who have accepted that by faith, are to offer that same word of grace to the world.

God has already offered reconciliation. It’s up to us to accept it and up to us to tell others about this wonderful offering of grace.
