2 Corinthians 3:14 – Veil Removed in ChristMarch 19, 2014
“My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation
of my heart shall be of understanding.”
David has shared before that the meditations of his heart are important. Obviously what you continually meditate on is important because it can determine where you go in your life. It’s the continual mulling over thoughts, whether good ones or bad ones, that will determine the direction you take. So the meditations of your heart are important.
He says in verse 3 that the meditations of his heart are of understanding. He desires to understand God’s Word and His ways deep in his heart. And in his meditations, thinking on God’s Word and considering it will give him supernatural understanding. He will be far wiser than those around him; and we see that to be true in his life from all that he shares in the psalms.
He also determined that his mouth would speak wisdom. He didn’t want to speak empty or vain words, words that are useless. He wanted to speak words that would encourage and build up and strengthen not only him but other hearers. He would only find those words from his hearts’ meditations.
Maybe it times to consider what you are storing in your heart. Is it good, pure, lovely, of good report (Philippians 4:8) or is it faithless empty words, words of hatred, unrest, filth? It might be time to take some soap to your mouth and clean it out; but first clean out your heart as David said: “create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
Out of the abundance of your heart, your mouth speaks (Luke 6:45).
