Ephesians 1:3 – Every Spiritual Blessing In Christ

Ephesians 1-3 700x400

Ephesians 1:3 (NKJV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

Our heavenly Father has blessed us. Aorist Active Participle indicates something that happened in the past and is still active or enduring today—“having blessed.” The word “places” is not in the original text so a better translation might be “in the heavenlies.” This does not mean it is for something when we get to Heaven. He has blessed us now.

This is, in fact, where we are now. “5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:5-6). In Christ we have all spiritual blessings. “Every” means all. All means all. God has already blessed us. We are walking in the blessings that God has already given us because we are in Christ.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9). If we have sown unto you spiritual things…” (1 Corinthians 9:11) “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

God has blessed us with an understanding of spiritual things. These things are understood only through the Spirit. “Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:1 NASB).

The spiritual blessings are for the spiritual person. The spiritual person has the Holy Spirit within. This person can read the Word and see more than mere words. He sees spiritual concepts, ideas, and revelations. He doesn’t just see logos word, he sees rhema words. These are the words that jump out from the pages of the Bible and change your life. They are life. They are part of the spiritual blessings found only in Christ.
