Ephesians 2:13 – Nigh in Christ

Ephesians 2-13 700x400

Ephesians 2:13
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” (NKJV)

Regardless of your past and how far you were from God, in Christ you are brought very near. I’ve heard testimonies of people who had done atrocious things in their life. People who you might think would never become anything redeemable to society. But you know what? Whatever a person has done is not the criteria God uses to decide who makes it into Heaven.

God loves the most despicable person as much as He loves you. When you see people who in your opinion have poor and undesirable behavior or lifestyle, you must remember that God loves them as much as He loves you. That might be hard to swallow, but it’s the truth. That’s because we see things in terms of behavior. What a person does or does not do that you would not do. We are always comparing people to some code of performance that we have lodged in our brain. God doesn’t do that. That’s the religious spirit that causes us to grade people by their conduct.

It’s not about behavior. It’s not about what went on in the past. There are no performance criteria with God. It’s about the blood of Jesus. It’s about what Jesus has done. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” (John 3:16) It’s not your righteousness (which is filthy rags anyway) and it’s not about you good works no matter how good they are. It’s the blood of Jesus.

Our access to God is through the blood of Jesus. “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.” (Hebrews 10:19) We can enter into the presence of God because Jesus made it all possible through the Cross.

You may have been far off, totally alienated, and lost, but Jesus provided the way. You don’t have to do anything but believe in what He has done for you. You are free from the guilt and condemnation of sin through the blood of Jesus. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:14)

“But now,” in Christ you have a new future. Yesterday is gone and past. Today—now you have a new relationship with God because of the blood of Jesus.
